I almost forgot. 2 2 ecotec is notorious for the fuel pressure bypass failing. It's on the injector fuel rail and easy to change. When they fail, you get over rich mixture. And hard starting. You will smell fuel. The rubber bellows from your airbox to throttle body will have fuel puddling in it.

The blue driver scanner says code p0340; camshaft position sensor, but after doing research, I was told by a buddy who's a mechanic that this model doesn't have one. What should I do, I just replaced the ignition control module and coil pack. What should I do? Don't have much money right now

Long time Chicago driver here. I've never understood why people call it "steering into the skid," it makes it sounds like you have to steer the opposite of where the nose is heading. Some people say it's because you're steering the opposite of which direction your BACK END is going, which... I don't know why you'd take the time to think of your car from the back end if you're not driving a semi. It's essentially the same thing as steering normally. I've always had success correcting a skid the way I would normally steer a car, albeit more gradually than I would with traction: if the front of your car is all of the sudden facing too far to the left, nudge the wheel slightly back to the right as you normally would (and yes, take your foot off the brake and gas!). In the video, you're doing the opposite; I can only imagine that wouldn't make you spin out more. Please let me know if I'm flat out wrong. I've had a lot of experience (especially this winter) driving in snowy and icy weather, though I admit I've never tried turning the wheel in the opposite direction during a skid, for fear of my life.

Of the roughly 5 vehicles in this video, I think the Celica in that color with all the snow on it looks the most badass. It has aged extremely well and has the most interesting design shape. Kudos for keeping that car, and keeping it safe and well-maintained. Also the one I'd take first in a Zombie Apocalypse.

Hi Scotty. Great advice over driving on snow and ice. I can tell you the I got a close call one year ago when I got on one of those blowing snow surfaced black ice. It suddenly aimed the car onto the car coming. That was a double line highway so in fraction of a second I thought "not today" , turned the steering wheel heading the place I wanted the car to go to, without pushing the throttle or hitting the break, just steering smoothly. I did not hit anything or go to the ditch. I remember the traction control acting while I was fighting against death. The car is an Infinity G35S with manual transmission wearing winter tires and I was not driving fast. So never touch breaks or throttle and drive a couple of seconds ahead of your next action.

Turn into the skid is confusing for some people, snap steering is an advanced technique that is valid and used. But you want to turn in the same direction your back end is sliding to correct the skid, "turn into the direction of the skid" I've literally seen people spin and be like I turned into it and I spun, why? As a professional operator I feel this needs to be more specific for inexperienced drivers.

Lived in the Alps for a winter: constant changes on the roads from snow to ice to snow pack to wet tarmac in under half a mile, with one side of the road rock face, the other sheer drop. Had an 84 VW Polo with FWD, no ABS. The trick was to make the same mental jump you do when you go from walking to skating: plan a few seconds ahead, and expect the car to slide rather than grip. Worked fine, after the first few scares.

Thanks Scotty for the video. I am from Finland, driving in snow and on ice is very familiar to us the Finns during winter time, just like in certain states in the US and Canada. This video startled me in the way that when you are accustomed to something, you notice how you do not particularly think what you are doing when you drive by instinct and through the feeling you get through your spine (we also call it the "buttom feeling"). Even though I have been driving with FWD/automatic cars for some time now, my favorites are RWD/manual cars because it's possible to make the car work for you with it's tendency of rear-end sliding. Most of the cars in Finland have also winter tires with spikes (studded snow tires) to provide additional traction. Especially if you are not used to driving in winter weather, correct speed and caution are important. I wish everyone safe journey on the roads, stay healthy and safe. 💖

snow tires have higher percentage of softer natural rubber in their tread, allowing the rubber to flex and maintain contact with the tarmac surface. also a lot of SuV owners think snow is the perfect time to show off how capable their "4x4's" are, not realising that the 4x4 system in most SuVs are rubbish, and offer hardly any advantage over a regular FWD or RWD car. Unless your SUV has symmetrical AWD like the Subarus or diff-locks like the landcruiser, then you'll be stuck at the bottom of the icy hill like everyone else.

I live in New England, we get snow and ice. Scotty confused me a few times about driving on snow and ice. I know Scotty knows what he talking about but the way he explained things is confusing. If you car is sliding in a direction that you don't want to be going in, you turn the wheel opposite the slide in the direction that you want to go--no braking. If your car has ABS and you pump the brakes the computer turns off the ABS and you'll have regular brakes. He did say this later in the video but not clearly the first time. If your unfamiliar with winter driving I urge you to check with someone who is.

I discovered that a car with ABS causes slide on snow, the second you apply the brake no matter how gentle you apply the brake, because ABS stops the wheels off and on in second, and the second your wheels stop it starts to slide. Without ABS you would be able to control wheels from stopping by how you apply the brakes.

For me most of winter driving is all about being smooth and "gliding". You don't want to make a bunch of jerky movements. You really want to keep good following distance and be observant so that you don't have to slam on your brakes or something. Also having good tires, duh, that's a really big thing for me. Tires are THE MOST important part of your vehicle IMO.

Traction control and ABS are not one in the same system. They are separate. A vehicle can have one and not the other. Like my truck, which has ABS but no traction control. ABS stops the tires from slipping while stopping. Traction control stops the tires slipping while accelerating. Also, almost every person I know that were driving a newer vehicle and got stuck in the snow traction control was to blame. Everyone who grew up driving in the snow knows you turn traction control off unless you want to get stuck in your own parking spot.

That's when the car started going sideways and heading for the sidewalk and the people. I powered out of it instead of breaking. I zigzaged from one side to the next but never hit the curb and got up to and past the intersection before I took a breath. Most situations in snow - power out works better than breaking

There are snow tires, then there are winters tires. Not necessarily the same thing. When the temperature drops and winter starts in places where snow and/or ice may be present, winter tires make a HUGE difference. If it's in your budget, buy an extra set of wheels and mount winter tires on them, and put them on your vehicle in snow season. Put them on when the temperature drops below freezing and leave them on until spring. They wear fast in warm weather, so be sure to change them before the temperature hits 40F on a regular basis. They are winter only tires, designed for maximum traction on snow and ice, but not intended for spring and summer.

In Nordic countries during winter, winter tyres are mandatory, either studded tyres or winter tyres based on friction. Much easier to drive, you can actually concentrate on driving without having to stress about sliding off the road... or other drivers hitting you because of tyres, though they MAY hit you for driving too FAST in snowy and icy conditions, even winter tyres cannot save you from completely idiotic people. 😕

Thanks for the tips Scotty! My little manuel 2002 corolla doesn't have ABS or Traction Control. I recently moved to kentcky and I've never driven in snow before

I did a burnout this morning on the highway 😂😂😂😂 I was only going 25 MPs and I was alone. I just let it happen real slow, then just drove off when it was over like nothing happened

We need you back down here in Houston Scotty! Houstonians REALLY don’t know how to drive or act in snow or ice conditions.

I use all season tires in the midwest. I was called irresponsible by someone online, but I've been driving for 17 years with no issues. Granted I am also a truck driver, so I have more driving experience than the average joe.

Scotty i wish you would tell the idiots here in the UK that you cant drive at 70mph in the snow and ice. You see them flying by everybody else and few miles up the road you see the same car in the under growth after spinning off the road, then its miles of tailbacks because of them. I hope cars by law here get dashcam's built into the vehicle with front and rear views and a memory card slot by the drivers door that the police can just take out the card and insert it in the patrol car and view the footage right there and then to see what went on.

Like a ship, your car is a she. Scotty tells us to pump her brakes easy, speed up gradually driving her and let her do the automatic pumping or she goes haywire.

I had to air up my tires and then I had a lot better traction.

Who the hell is brave/stupid enough to drive 80mph on ice?? When there’s fresh snow on the road I don’t go above 70km/h (which is like 44mph).

Blizzak Bridgestone winter tires are so amazing. I daily drive a 6th gen Camaro in the Canadian winters, every single day to and from work. And with those Blizzaks I have such amazing traction... IN A REAR WHEEL DRIVE COUPE.

I just drove for 4+ hours for my job tonight. In falling snow that turned to fairly slippery slush on top of the already hard-packed snow that was already there. Pretty much did the exact opposite of everything in this video. Why? Because I know how to drive. Turned down the traction control most of the time. ABS kicked in once, when I actually found about 50 feet of straight-up ice. Oh, and....never once put my truck in 4x4. And there is NO SUCH THING AS INVISIBLE ICE!!! Just lots of people that refuse to learn what it looks like.

Family friend's 16 year old son with 5 friends on a restricted license (Ca.) blew a signal with a formerly mint 2007 Toyota Sienna and collided with a Mercedes. No one was injured luckily, both vehicles totaled and a stack of tickets :( and very unhappy parents.....
