To be clear I’m talking about GM cars over 80k miles that have never been changed before Ford Has Stopped Making Trucks in America (and I Like It): amget.info/have/dqSe14-PyaSde3Q/video.html ⬇️Scotty’s Top DIY Tools: 1. @Ashton Cunningham About 80K miles.
@12voltvids how many miles were on it?
Made that mistake with my old 98 exploder. Wife got talked into a trany and transfer case oil change and flush. 600 bill to "flush everything" and put in new oil. Within 20K the trany and transfer case was shot. Next mechanic that saw it said changing the fluid was the worst thing to do for same reason. Old fluid had microscopic clutch material in it, that was essentially keeping it running.
@Brandt Cross I've been in the service part of motorcycles since may of 1979 and now in parts, accessories and service and I here it all the time where people will replace the oil filter every other oil change. I explain to them as I did in my first comment to you and they still don't get it. Unfortunately you can't fix stupid people. 🤗
@Clifford S. its all good lol I was like "why would someone NOT change the oil filter during an oil change?" But then I remembered, its 2021, and there's a lot of stupid people out there 🤣🤣
I have a 2014 civic Si, the transmission is fine 90k got used but debating on changing the trans fluid. Autozone recommend castrol atf import in a manual car so I just want to clarify if that’s even safe. Or should I just stick with manual transmission fluid or just leave the transmission alone completely.
It's not just GM. The transmission was slipping on my buddies old Dodge van, and the fluid/filter change made it worse.
Hi Scotty, I'm driving a 09 Pontiac G6. It has been a great car besides the nightmare headlights! I know you said not to change transmission fluid if it's working well, but I just hit 180,000 and noticed the transmission is starting to slip between 20-40mph. Should I change the transmission fluid now? I want the car to last another year and everything else seems good.
I have a 2007 Subaru Outback that has a hard shift ( slips ) when it is cold ( under 30 degrees ) and first start driving ( 15 - 20 minutes ) Will changing transmission oil help? Other maintainance ?
Is it safe to change the transmission fluid and filter in my 2010 Toyota Venza? Previous owner never changed it. At 145,000 miles. Never would flush it at this point. Only drain and fill
thank you for saving me $200 since my GM car has never had a AT fluid change and im at 133k it only shifts hard sometimes because of the pressure control solenoid. its a 2000 olds
Clarksville to Nashville thats a good lil bit of a ride with traffic lol
I would love your opinion on changing the fluid in a manual transmission everyone puts there thoughts in on automatic transmissions and CVT transmissions... I know how I feel about it but whats your opinion.
Hey Scotty is this for any transmissions or just automatics? I have a manual transmission that’s about to hit 60k miles and I was thinking of doing a fluid change
Transmission fluid looks like Tylenol
What about a Chrysler PT Cruiser?
I just did a full flush on my 07 Kia with 150k. Fluid was all black. Flushed it all and replaced. Well just drained it all out of the cooler hose until it turned red. Wish me luck.
OH MY GOD it's Jose!!!!!!!
There's no grass on Mars LOL
Scotty missing all that texas Snow
Wrong not changing transmission fluid will cause damage to transmission it’s going to wear out quicker
Scotty I have a 14 Cruze diesel what a great car but I have 95,000 miles on it should I change the trans fluid ? Thanks
Only thing that needs to be changed and it's rare is the transmission filter, their is so much fluid in the torque converter where changing the filter wont harm anything, but changing all of the fluid is a bad idea because of detergents in new fluid which will damage seals, for example my friend she had her transmission fluid changed, i said don't do it because transmission will stop working it did she only had reverse and 1st gear !! luckily with Lucas Transmission additive it did correct the problem but who knows how much damage was done by changing the fluid.
@Scotty Kilmer I have a 2007 jetta with 100000 miles, should I change my transmission fluid? My transmission is still in good condition and is automatic
Scotty, great oil advice. Thanks
No oxygen, no food or water on Mars. No trees, buildings, cars or places to visit. The radiation will damage your brain on the long trip there. I think Earth is the better place to live.
Even Scotty hates Cruz
Do we change it or not 🤣
Scotty, about the car electric window. If you pushed the button and the interior light dims the switch and the motor are making contact. If you push button and no dimming of light, open circuit. Could be switch or motor or wire between where the hinges let the wire bend. Slamming the door made the motor brushes make contact again. When ice freezes a window shut they will still try to work.
That is correct. Repaired many for my customers. LMAO, I shut door while customer holds button window works, then I tell customer repaired open in ckt number, 75 bucks please. They gladly offer to pay it, I laugh and tell them just kidding. I advise them to exercise windows once a week.
Before you do anything 'clever', when your rear windows aren't opening or closing, make sure your child lock button is off. >D
Scotty was featured in the AARP magazine! Good Job! Scotty
What’s there to do in Clarksville tn last year i went to Nashville Clarksville and Pulaski seen a old auto garage in Clarksville tn that had old gas pump and old car out from was that your garage and the burger joint I went to in Clarksville was really good forgot the name of it
Here’s why changing your tires will cause your car to blow up
was thinking about get transmission flush for my 3 hunder thousand mile honda some one told me not to do it
Never flush. Use fluid exchange if no codes fluid is not contaminated with friction material and transmission functions correctly regardless of miles.
what you think about honda ridgeline i have 2006 3 hunder thousand miles still going strong
Hey Scotty. What the best manual muscle car to buy?
I have a 2011 Toyota Camry with one of those transmissions where you cannot check the transmission fluid with a dipstick. I purchased it with 150k miles. I don't know if the transmission fluid was ever changed. It now has 200k miles. Should I just leave it be? It seems to shift fine and 95% of the miles that get put on it are highway miles.
Should be done at 100k miles. If no codes and transmission functions correctly exchange fluid with Toyota specific WS or Type IV ATF, not universal or multi application ATF.
Well there goes my Mars idea!
Surprised scotty didnt praise the daihatsu moreso after all they are toyotas. The charades while not many were sold in usa were tough as nails.
2011 Crown Vic - Change the transmission fluid last summer at 45,000 miles - felt great shifts felt both more fluid and solid but then after a few hundred miles the transmission makes a squeaking noise at red lights but still shifts great.
@Random 549 Should be on your receipt. You have a drainable torque converter also. No need to exchange fluid, you can do this yourself. I can pretty much guarantee you they used a Universal fluid. Get that crap out of your transmission.
@Mark Codiroli I had a local mom & pop shop do the work & was not there to see what they used for ATF. But I also had them install an aftermarket pan with a drain plug. When the weather warms up I will drain the ATF out and replace it with the proper Mercon fluid.
What fluid did you use? Mercon V?
My friend has a 2012 Chevy Cruz and he has been fortunate he has been taking really responsible with taking care of it with zero problems Scotty
Heard this non sense for years.....an as an auto mechanic have since saved numerous transmissions with high miles doin a fluid change/flush. Contaminated solenoids and or valve body’s are much more common worries than transmissions clutch packs being “held together with contaminates”. I’ve yet to see a transmission shift worse after, but I’ve seen numerous fix the current problem....and in some cases pull the car from completely from limp mode simply from fluid. If you want your transmission to die an early premature death, listen to scottys words.
That is correct, however disagree with power flush, I only exchange fluid in series using front pump.
There is a rat and mice repellent thats made from pine trees. Your car will smell like a pine tree but rodents won’t go near it. Works great if you have a car in storage to prevent damage to your wiring.
@Arthur C I stand corrected Arthur, my apologies.
@Mark Codiroli Hi Mark, from what I read it’s just a container you take the lid off of and place it inside your car, like an air freshener but a little stronger. That’s all I know about it, I don’t think just the scent coming from the container could damage anything, several people on a car forum said it worked but who knows.
The acidity in pine degrades wiring, kind of defeating the purpose don't you think?
Change your transmission fluid!!! It can lead to torque convertor issues, issues with the bands and clutch's also cause premature west on hard parts. The transmission internal seals are built better than they was 20yrs ago. Dont neglect your vehicle!!! Its an investment in the long run if taken care of. All vehicles have different service intervals. If you don't know when your suppose to change it look in your owners manual. It's that book that's neglected in your glove box. The manufacture has all your service intervals in there for your vehicle and usually has a note section for you to write in when you've done a large service to prevent yourself from getting duped by other shops.
window thing could be switch itself sometimes the main switch will effect rest of windows
WOW AAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++ again great video I liked it a lot keep up the great work
Does the advice about not changing transmission fluid apply to a 2010 Subaru Impreza?
No, Scotty advise on transmission servicing is bad and vague. Service your transmission every 80k to 100k miles.
If you do go to Mars, make sure your spacecraft is a Toyota.......
oh, thankyou Scotty...I was going to change my trans fluid to help prolong its life...now I can sleep at peace tonight knowing I don't ever have to change.....whew...how about my oil and oil filter for the engine... I'd hate to cause any issues...
I bought a 99 Tacoma with 158K miles and an A340F automatic transmission. The trans fluid was as black as motor oil. I dropped the pan, changed the filter and refilled. I continued the drain and refill over time until the fluid was pink again. It's been about 50K miles and the trans shifts like new.
When the filter clogs up on your Malibu it'll break too. Shitty advice drop the pan change the filter. If doing that breaks the transmission it was already doomed
Mythical
My wife’s 2010 Toyota Highlander has 112,000 miles on it. We bought it about 5 years ago with 30,000 miles on it. I was thinking about changing the transmission fluid and filter. Should I leave well enough alone?
Scotty Scott, How much would you charge me to rebuild my 396 Chevy engine?
Hey scotty: I own new honda civic SI and i heard about changing the transmission fluid right away because of gear grinding problems it is ok to do? 5w30 amssoil fluid synthetic synchromec transmission. You know anything about it. Or changing will void my warranty. This is a problem with honda SI . Thanks 🙏
Oreillys has the better warranties, that’s why dealers and shop use them for aftermarket parts.
I started my car once and the engine fan started making an awful sound. A cat come running out from under the car!
If your oil is still working in your engine, why change it right Scotty.
Best one
Plugged filters will destroy the transmissions, serviced every 60 to 80,000 miles--I DO.
What about changing a 2014 Tacomas 5spd with 125K? It works fine but I have an itch to change all the fluids.
You are right
Hey Scotty I live in Shamokin Pennsylvania at the first time I heard puddle jump puddle jumper a long time I had a Chevette it was a puddle jumper the man that thing went everywhere
Your incompetence is bizarre. Automatic transmissions rely on fluid VISCOSITY and lubrication properties. The bands are moved by servos. The carriers need lubrication. The clutch discs in the drums need CLEAN fluid. You are NOT a transmission expert. Not. Second, the issue with all-electric vehicles is the short life of the BATTERIES. Not the motors. Since the cost of batteries usually equals 22% of the cost of the vehicle, it IS beyond the cost of standard ICE vehicles. Time to retire Scott.
Yeah it happens so true I believe change it before 50.000
Should I change the transmission fluid in my 2005 nissan altima 3.5L? I have 126000 miles it had to have been changed at least once before it was clean when i first got it now it is a lil dirty.
if you change the TM fluid every 30k via the Siphon method and NOT the flush, your transmission will last much longer. The "Transmission Flush" is what kills the transission because it disloges derbies and clogs the filters and valves. also Never ever do a flush on a TM with over 100k that has never had its fluid changed.
Ive been thankful my 04 Acura tl has 327000
Scotty says that buying a Chevy Cruze is like pissing your money away.... I didn’t! I’ve had my 2014 Chevy Cruze for 5 years and I’ve had very good luck with it. It gets me to where I need and want to go. It’s been a very reliable car for me.
I've changed my fluid 3 times, no problems. Clean good, dirty bad.
Recently changed my Transmission fluid/flush on my 2014 XLT F150 with 75k miles. Thinking i can go longer next time. It's paid off, so i replaced the spark plugs and did a coolant flush as well. I wanna keep her as long as possible. Seems like a smart idea to keep her running a long time.
I have a 2006 Chevy impala, trans has been slipping and when I put it in park if rolls forward and catches hard. Could this just be from a loose trans line ??? It has 180k miles and just afraid to change fluid since I never did it and I don’t think previous owner did either
Transmissions. We are endlessly hearing about not flushing a radiator or changing every 40000 miles. We also hear that the averaged driver does about 15-18,000 miles a year meaning change the fluid in 3 -4 years. We never hear about when to change the fluid or do a drain for cars that are run in city traffic about 3-5,000 a year. So, I end up draining some of the fluid every 2-3 years and changing the filter with low mileage.
stupid is as stupid does
Planned obsolescence is absolutely true. I used to run mail contracts with the post office. 5 exact trucks bought new every 4 years. They ran the same route, just a few hours apart. If one truck broke, you'd better buy 5 parts because within the month, all 5 trucks broke the same part, everytime.
pepper spray or bear spray will keep rodents out of your wiring, little goes a long way and keep it away from the cowling and your ac vents lol
I was talking to a friend of mine about changing ATF. He worked for over 30 years at a GM dealership and he told the story of a woman that brought her car in for an ATF fluid change and after they changed it they could not even drive it out of the garage.
Scotty forgot to mention how trubos and superchargers wear out your engine twice as fast like he does in MOST of his videos.
I am a manager at a quick lube. flush at 30000. 1000000 is too late. I wont touch those. If flushed at 30k, and every 30k, after? they last forever. Do all the vehicles manufacturer recommended service intervals and all is well. dont , and dont tell me now that your power steering pump is making noise after I tried selling the flush 4 times
Scotty, I still have my 1988 Yugo. ❤
Hey Scotty. Great videos. Your my first go to for advice and tips on repairing any car or truck I own.
Hey scotty I have a 1998 Toyota Camry with 126 thousand miles it runs fine I love the car anywayz got it off this guy that drove it a lot more then I did, he had it 4 years and put 90 thousand miles when he got the car off his uncle it had 34 thousand miles its the V6 3.0 6 cycle he had all the fluids changed on a daily but when I asked him did he ever have the transmission fluid and filter done he said no, so this car has mostly highway miles should I change it or leave it in there, I plan on having this car for a few hundred thousand miles I HOPE can you give me ur expert opinion
Hey Scotty, I have a 2013 hyundai veloster turbo, bought it new and haven't changed the trans fluid, it has almost 70k miles. Should I change it or leave it as is? Love the channel
Don’t change it . I’m not Scotty but I know not to change a car brand that most likely starts breaking apart at 100k
As a transmission rebuilder,I would like to say-SHUT UP!!!!!!!! LOL
Next video: Why you need to change your transmission fluid every 30,000 miles?
Hey Scotty, looking for a used SUV what do recommend? Thank you in advance.
Beam me up Scotty. There is no intelligent life on this planet.
Lol Daihatsu is a puddle jumper
Thanks Scott
Should I change my tran fluid it has 67,000 mile its 2016 Acura mdx
Scotty in 2008: Only buy toyota's Scotty in 2012: Buy Toyota or honda Scotty in 2021: Buy toyota, Honda or Mazda.
2016-2019 Cruze & Malibu are a POS, I had them & transmissions went.
I have an '05 vw passat. The reverse is going out (cant throttle it), & now have to hold 2000 rpms to gain speed, & rps rarely drop on their own.... should i change the fluid? Thx, Hope to hear from u soon.
@Sirius Bizniss dang VW's i feel u HAVE to keep reg schedule for fluid change, no other way to keep it running.
No, you should sell it while it’s still able to move, VWs are endless money pits..
I changed my transmission fluid in my 96 Tahoe with 130k on it and about a month letter if that my transmission when out it doesn’t run long and once it gets hot it doesn’t shift at all is there a way to fix this without having to replace my transmission or get it rebuilt
Great way to clarify in the description. I manage a couple of transmission shops and you are a spot on as far as people who don't maintain their transmissions end up at a shop like mine spending thousands. While engine oil is super important, transmission fluid change every 30,000 miles is key to keeping your car running smooth.
Hi Scotty I have a 2004 C5 Corvette with a 136,000 miles on it, should i do drain & fill and change the transmission fluid filter?
The thing about electric vehicles is that the batteries will only last 10-15 years. So keep that in mind. A hybrid is a good choice, though I know somebody whose Prius blew a head gasket after warranty and they still owed about 12K on the car.
My neighbor has a Dodge Ram truck with the Hellcat motor in it! He said he had to special order it! It's a 4 X 4!
That Hemi vrooom.
I am thinking about getting a vehicle that has around 300hp or more. I like the 2012 infinity g37, 2011 370Z, 2010 Camaro rs, SS, but I am looking for something dependable that I can modify later. The used Chevy Camaro ss motor goes for $5000.00 or $6000.00, or I would buy that 1. Curious what you think.
Why the hell are you buying a turbo on a mom car. Yes, electric cars are pretty much giant toy cars and they got them jam packed with electronics to the point you'll need electronic engineer and a computer engineer to fix one.
The grass isn't greener on Mars it's redder.
Do the transmission maintenance on schedule. Or don't. There is no TRY. Yoda Kilmer
Hi Scotty - Great point here, I remember selling a 15-year-old real clean Ford Ranger the customer wanted to do a transmission service, and the used car lot and garage I worked at strongly suggested not to that, and we wouldn't be held liable if the car had shifting problems. About a week later the customer wanted to trade the Ranger back to us and the auto trans now slipped. In the case of my car a 2007 BMW 328xi 185K the car was serviced regularly by the dealer, and started having a slow first shift when cold. My mechanic did a transmission drain and refill (not flush), filter change, and the car was fixed, and since then putting about 2,000 miles on it the problem has not resurfaced.
Hey Scotty do you think a 2003 Ford F-150 5.4 v8 with 123,714 miles is a good deal with a small piece of Rush
I agree on the no flush advice, i have heard that my whole life. if its working leave it alone.
