@DutchBoy NL I guess you've missed the blackouts in the space-age European country of Germany that's right next door to you. Do you live under a rock or something? Germany's super modern alternative energy program is a joke so I wouldn't be so high & mighty if I were you.
@Scotty Kilmer If your electric car's battery goes dead can you walk to a charging station & fill up a jug of electricity & take it back to your electric car & drive away?
@Alex Nikon Yes, you can charge a car in the rain.
@DutchBoy NL Wall Street would rather steal from Venezuela.
@Aurthor Thing We're #1! We're #1!
lol
Current electric cars are crazy. Flaw one, they are only for the rich, flaw 2 the driving range, flaw 3 the biggest one, the left is anti electricity production and will continue to shut down nuclear, coal, gas, Oil, and hydropower production. Nuclear and Hydro produce no carbon emissions, which proves that their claimed motivation is a lie. Now hydrogen cars could work. But leftists are not about resolving problems they are just pro Chaos that's the truth.
Super wrong with this take lol
And sadly Scotty is too dense to miss the fact that the reason text has had power outages is because they scammed on their green grid so when the gas grid went down they didn't have enough Renewables to maintain the grid and thus blackout
NASA runs its rovers on mars for decades via solar panels. keeping the panels clean keeps the rovers running. texas disconnected its power system from the national power grid and ended federal regulations. guess what happened? yeah, regulations are there to keep things running like it did in neighboring states.
I’m dead he did not just putt in dr eggman
Scotty, you and I are a little older than a lot of these idiots that are making some of these decisions. But that just proves that we still have functioning brains and common sense.
If I lived in Texas I would be many times more worried about insanely high electric bills. I wonder how many of them had a heart attack when they read their bills!!
Imaging being so proud of lacking foresight.
Honestly there is nothing much good from this electric cars. The mechanics is not even that impressive.
Spotty is the master of sensationalism. Everything is a crisis -but not really
Scotty: ...To go to the grocery store!! "Grocery Store:" LIQUORS
Do not stay in a idling car with all the windows up. You could die of carbon monoxide poisoning. Take the good advice from a Canadian.
Wait what? You mean even if the car is outside?
Scotty is both right & wrong (again) about electrics / My father is an electrical-engineer whom has worked on same (I'm a laster-technician) / Without being to-specific here, he's only 1-week to-late, per-when this video was posted / True, "solid-state" batteries are mostly more than a decade away from solving electrics most pressing needs mentioned here...But just yesterday, New advances were announced for lithium-batteries that will Double the range & lower cost of production, taking Both his concerns about infrastructure & cold into account, while allowing manufactures to use existing equipment & tooling to produce said supply & massively upscale production at the same time, with all constraints on rare-earth materials considered now & well into the future / Look for it in ten-yrs. to be "mainstreamed," even if solid-state is not by then, as perhaps Scotty won't be either...
Yep, after 3 days go fill up you gas tank, oh that's right, need electricity to run those pumps, bugger.
Hah.. that's just funny as hell. If they all had portable generators, solar cells, and some free time. I'm sure they'd all have backup power.
Electricity doesn't come from thin air...... Nikola Tesla am I joke to you?
Loved the Dr. Robotnik image with the laugh
I still think the hybrid design is superior because not only do you have electricity you also have either gas or diesel and quite honestly the most Superior would be something akin to a turbine engine which would be able to take all kinds of fuel. how they do it in locomotives for example I think is probably one of the best ways.
Don't work that way Scotty. You're incompetent to discuss this topic at any level. Stick with what you know, i.e. Toyotas.
So how come China is going all electric cars and why are they the worlds largest electric car market? I read an article stating that “the USA may run on gas cars forever, leaving China and Europe to have electric cars”. Not the exact quote, but you’ll find the article if you type that in.
They could build the roads with conductive strips, similar to electric RC track cars for kids. No more batteries
Scotty, I hope you ring that Bell forever
Scotty has forgotten Tesla make whole house solar electric systems. Texas does have an electric grid problem that's inadequate in many ways, obviously not winterizing them, a problem not apparent in the other parts of the US...those pesky Federal Regs that Texas wants to thumb its nose at...oh well. Nebraska had plenty of power during this same storm INCLUDING wind and solar.
Wow, by tragic accident Texas showed the nation and the world how dependence on Green Tech leaves us all vulnerable
I suppose you don't believe in Bitcoin, either.
Electric cars are mainstream in other parts in the world where big oil doesnt own both sides of our government, get out of the country Scottie youll find we are far behind because big oil owns the people who could improve the infrastructure
The pumps at the gas station are electric. Right? All the best Texas. Hope y’all are fixed up soon.
An EV on a fast charger isn't the same as a space heater or even 5 space heaters though, in the UK at least the government incentivises the crap out of smart ones, they can actually make these brownouts actually *less* common because they provide a base load to the grid and can then the "smart" part, they respond to the electrical grid status. If everyone plugs in space heaters at the same time and the grid starts nearing an overload state then EV chargers across the city reduce their charge rate (or stop if its an extreme case) simultaneously, keeping the grid stable until either the load goes away or until power stations get their extra generators spooled up. It would often not really affect charge rates that much because they would most of the time only have to reduce for short periods relative to the amount of time most people leave their car plugged in when they get home from work. Also the camera battery comparison is ridiculous, camera batteries are completely different to car batteries, the way a camera uses its batteries is optimised for run time (so it charges them closer to 100%) and the batteries are undersized (meaning they need recharging a large number of times) that's why they go bad after a few years, EV batteries never charge to 100% (even when it says 100% its something line 90-95%) and it takes days of use (for most people) to get them through a full charge cycle, both of these things *exponentially* increase the lifespan so no... not 3 years... try 10-15.
Scotty is irrelevant. Living in the past. EVs will take over the market in the next ten years no matter how sad it makes him.
there is over 75000 electric car in province of Quebec and more and more every day are sold. And we get cold weather here for 4-6 mounth a year... You guy in texas had freezing temperature once and I did feel sorry for you guy down there, but not much, since you blindly and stupidly denied climate change . electric powered car is the future . (as well as good and properly maintained electric system,(which you obviously dont have since it failed so rapidly. (by the way scotty, it is not Qwebec, it is Quebec as Kebek) cant you at least prononce it correctly? I know USA people are not very good in géography, but now you know at least how to prononce Quebec.
Isn't april 1st still a month away?
Wasn't there a time when gasoline cars were replacing the horse and buggy that they warned about the combustion engine, well, combusting? The threat of the explosion of the gas/air/spark mixture would explode the vehicle and kill the people in it. And go 30 mph? People would be speeding all over town and killing other people as they lost control. And so on. All new innovations have naysayers. Is the concept 'perfect' right now? No. Will it eventually become better? Yep. Having fun making money with people watching his videos, no matter how silly or impractical they are.
Texas utilities simply didn’t weatherize their plants; that’s the root cause of this. Also, a gas powered (propane, gasoline, etc.) generator will recharge of an electric vehicle as a backup. Granted, if you are living in an area where there is weeks of no sun and single digits temps, then electric may not be desirable. Its rather disingenuous to get overly excitable about this right now since we are at the start of the EV technology development; one would imagine there were plenty of issues in cold weather when gas engines were developed originally .. until they figured a bunch of stuff out with engines, starters, batteries for chargers, etc.
DEAD ~battery~ RIGHT
Uh, you don’t have to necessarily charge them off the grid. Additionally, many people can work remote, no need to commute.
😲😳 Wow ! Texans need to do to protect their electrical grid: 1) Don't plug in your Toast ! 2) Don't turn on your Lights ! 3) Don't turn on your Heat ! Take a Vacation to Mexico, like the chosen few do! Let the rest fend for themselves! You get some much more in Texas ? 🥶🤔 Just throw gasoline on it!
Pumps of gas stations need electricity too! 😉
I agree 100%. Texas Just Ended the Future of "Electricity" in America
also cars are terrible we should go back to good old horses all you need to do is feed them no need for electricity these new fangled cars wont replace horse and buggy’s unfortunately like horses ice cars are eventually going away yes there is still horse racing but have you seen someone riding horse on the freeway
All the idiots buying EV's know nothing about repairs or real long term costs. They are throw aways just like phones and computers. Tried and true gas and diesel are indestructible. Can crank and set almost indefinite and still run and drive. - Master Mechanic - Aerospace Mechanic
8:42 again Scotty shows his ignorance about new technology. So a Hydrogen car doesn't have to deal with the cold or a battery? Obviously, he hasn't learned how they work yet, nor driven one in the cold. Since the 2021 Toyota Mirai doesn't start up with the fuel cell, it starts with the Li-ion battery that Scotty claims doesn't work in the cold. The fuel cell keeps the battery charged like a series hybrid and takes a while to get warmed up and going, it would experience the same of his perceived problems as a BEV to get going. Granted a BEV doesn't have the enormous acceleration for the first few miles when it's below zero out, just like a gas engine doesn't either till it's warmed up.
@Bo Han, I managed to watch 20 seconds 👏, now until they bring out a gasoline powered time machine, that will be 20 seconds I will not be seeing again.
He is right on the heater math, wow
Sorry, Scotty. You can work on the old timer combustion contraptions for the rest of your lifespan. Electric cars are coming and before long everybody will have it.
Polution. Let's talk about it
One day, gas will disappear and we are going to seriously struggle if we don't advance in electric
So basically don’t own a Tesla in Texas
The Toyota Mirai Hydrogen Fuel Cell car does have Nikel-Metal Hydride traction batteries. You won't be getting away from needing a battery for EVs easily.
In the 2021Mirai, Toyota switched to a Li-ion battery.
PREACH IT SCOTTY!!!!
this guy has always given some shady shitty advise lololol
😯 "Electricity doesn't come out of thin air..?"😦
Scotty, modified Rickshaws with snow tires pulled by genetically modified Husky's that are impervious to cold temperatures, and can run for miles without food or water?
The voice that sank a thousand ears.
This was done to texas on purpose. Make no mistake about that.
Good thing Norway and GM ain't smokin' what Scotty's got in the pipe.
Well electricity does come out of thin air sometimes
Don't gas station pumps need electricity to pump fuel?
Don't gasoline pumps need electricity to function as well? Can't fill up the tank if the pumps are dead...
03:14 - that's just flat untrue, many Tesla superchargers as you pictured there are off-grid solar stations, especially in TX.
LOL can't work on electric cars. Texas has more than enough power available. Our inept corrupt government is the reason this happened.
Sorry, but no. Everything is failing in Texas, not just electrical infrastructure. Many of the people with heat only have it because of their EVs. Huston Tx has a peak grid capacity of 67Gw and a typical peak usage of about 53Gw from 3-6pm on a summer day. The Off-Peak usage is about 29Gw, when the vast majority of people charge their EVs. That means that if every single person in the city went out and bought an EV tomorrow and plugged in to charge overnight the draw would only be 48Gw total, not even close to the 3-6pm draw. That means that if a grid can handle a busy summer afternoon of business A/C and commerce traffic, it can easily handle Off-Peak EV charging. A Bolt or VW ID4 will have cheaper maintenance and easier parts availability than any Tesla but the supercharger network might be worth the trade off if you live somewhere you cannot charge, like in an apartment that refuses to install chargers, or you do a lot of road trips.
How about converting methane gas to hydrogen where does methane gas come from landfills our rear ends and various other places why not go to that approach Scotty
Well the thing about Tesla’s are the car is just the 1st step Tesla’s motto is to provide the world with renewable sustainable energy. Soo wtbs you would want to have a solar roof and power wall so your house nor car loses power and problem solved.. it’s more that just a car it’s supposed to be about the commitment a life style change
Toyota Hybrids are the only solution for now. Next step? Hydrogen. Toyota is doing research with the Mirai FCEV.
Canada...minus 20-30 for weeks on end, snowfall measured in feet, not inches....schools open, roads open, stores open, ski hills jammed......what is the matter with America?
"What do they know about running anything"? Shoes a picture of Nancy Pulosi . Classic Scotty .
Electric cars have been around a while a hundred years at least. Jay leno has a 1909 Baker. Tesla made a break through and now all the i.c.e. car companies are making electric cars. Follow the money people. The Texas grid could fail again and that would not stop the progress of electric cars worldwide including America. It will make my dream (I.C.E.) cars cheaper for sure.
Short sighted.
I could understand why you hate Tesla. It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks.
Wow. Did you do any research? I think not. Your entire argument is your opinion. Sad.
They got him.
LOL almost complete crap. There was NO GAS or electricity in Texas. People couldn't drive either car if they had one. Another Texas AMgetr was able to get around in their volt when all the gas stations were bone try. Best advice buy an electric car in a state with a functioning electric grid. lol
my 06 Camry cranked on after 4.5 days of sitting during the ice over like nothing happened
Invest in a carriage and a horse. When the world freezes over only horses will get us to our destination.
I laughed at my neighbour who owns a Tesla 🚗🔌🔋. Only that day when I pulled up at the gas station I realized no electricity no gas ⛽. 🤣🤣
Scotty's the one who is just TOTALLY IGNORANT of what Tesla has done is his generation.
The only real alternative is leg power. Bikes, skateboards, inline skates and scooters.
Scotty, you often have a lot of great takes, but I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. Canada, which is far colder than Texas has windmill farms that don't break down to cold weather because they weatherize their equipment. Looks like some corners were cut in Texas, and charging customers market spot rates for energy instead of running like a utility and averaging out costs has resulted in bills spiking to $7,000 when the supply is disrupted. This is poor management - not a lack of demand nor feasibility of electric cars.
Im gonna watch the fall of ev with great interest.
I guess Texas is not ready for space heaters too, not only electric cars. Not to mention ac
it shows that the state under the g o p is a failure. the same thing that is happing too the whole nation post the reagan lie all government is bad. in fact right now we could power a home with the cars.
Hey Scotty, I think people are missing the point with electric vehicles and renewable energy. Coal, natural gas, and fossil fueled vehicles can co-exist together. We will not eliminate one or the other. They will co-exist to give us the best possible solutions to the problems we are experiencing today. Problems such as pollution, gas costs, increased energy demands, and failures from weather, natural disasters, etc. When natural gas and coal powered power plants fail, solar power and battery back up systems can help people during disasters like the one in Texas. When gas stations are shut down, or there are long lines, inflated prices, etc. electric vehicles can help us get around and even power homes during an outage. And electric vehicles won't cause brown outs. Keep in mind that when electric vehicles charge, their draw is comparable to that of other appliances in the home such as a/c, heat, water heater.
If the power goes off use a generator to charge your car propane or gas generator
Electricity does come out of thin air✌
Scotty lost me with not using / liking cordless tools. In my trade they are the greatest thing since spin on oil filters, (that was even better than sliced bread).
Next week Scotty buys an EV and raves every day about them.
@Zachary Zarko That's great. Something that no one will ever buy. A car with half the efficiency as an EV, has less passenger and cargo space because it's used by the tanks, weighs more than an EV, has a bazillion parts from filters, air pumps, needs maintenance every couple thousand miles. Costs 10 times more per mile to operate. Oh, that'll be a big hit. You do know how hydrogen is made, right? You can make it from natural gas through high-temperature steam reformation which emits CO2 during the process, or you can make it with electrolysis from the same grid and waste 75% of the electricity going from electricity to compressed H2 back to electricity to drive the wheels with it. In addition, 45 places to fuel up on H2 (pretty much only in one state) as opposed to 370 million electric outlets plus high-speed chargers all over the place. It's a cute idea but better served for transportation needs that have no other choices like shipping and maybe airlines with the occasional truck that needs to run 24x7.
Toyota makes a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle called the Mirai. It refuels in 5 minutes, and the only thing that comes out of the tailpipe is water vapor.
This was unwatchable from the get-go. The man may know cars, but he is not qualified to talk about electrical grids. Grids can be reliable - if we make them so. The failure in Texas was not an act of God, but an act of Republicans.
This video is total nonsense. Just check how cold it is in Scandinavia where people are driving EVs all the time. I used to drive there a PHEV on pure electricity when it was -22 ˚F. No problems at all.
if all Scandinavia have electric cars you will be in dark+ air conditioner in house
This channel is for people who know nothing about cars, you would believe everything he says and take it as "good advice".
I agree with you 100% would like to live long enough to see all this people that want to change the world wen they start paying their electricity bill when this is all set up

I drive a civic with i-Vtec so I'm environmentally conscious.
I got a Tesla Model 3 and just went through two this winter snowstorms and a few power outages. It melts the snow and ice before I even get in and is already warm. The AWD is very fun in the snow. If one part of the grid goes down, just go another part of the grid. It loses like 1% in three days of inactivity. I'm not going back to gasoline. I understand Scotty, you gotta protect your brand.
texas i not ready do to its greedy unregulated pro utility anti consumer rules.
Do you really have to SHOUT so much?
